[The Hague, 16 September 2024] – Today INSO launched its new NGO Security Management online course, designed specifically for humanitarian professionals who have safety and security management responsibilities and those aspiring to similar roles.
The course, currently available in English, is highly interactive, featuring a combination of videos, practical exercises, curated content, and AI-powered learning tools that provide dynamic, personalised feedback to participants.
Developed by humanitarians for humanitarians, this 4-hour course, totally free of charge, covers essential NGO security competencies, equipping managers to update and operate their organisation’s security management tools.
Throughout the course participants will learn how to:
- Apply humanitarian principles to access challenges
- Overcome humanitarian dilemmas as a team
- Lead a participatory Security Risk Assessment and contribute to a context analysis
- Define effective Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contingency plans
- Manage a security incident
By being accessible to everyone, everywhere in the world, it also presents a valuable opportunity for students and professionals aiming to enter the humanitarian sector, as well as staff from donor organisations supporting humanitarian projects in the field.
Fèlicie Chevalier, Director of Training at INSO highlights that “for INSO, this initiative also serves as a means to support humanitarians in regions we are not offering in-person training. Also, by encouraging universities, NGOs, and donor organisations to incorporate the course into their professional development and academic programs, we help broaden the reach of essential NGO security management practices.”
This free course is hosted on DisasterReady.org, a learning platform providing over 1,500 courses and created with the mission of Building the Skills of Humanitarian and Development Professionals Around the World.
This NGO Security Management Online Course was developed thanks to the support of The Crisis and Support Centre of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
